Balancers, Manipulators, End Of Robot Arm Tooling, Below The Hook
Powered end effectors can incorporate a variety of movements to align a part between multiple pick up/set down orientations, help maneuver the part between operations or accommodate several different model variations. We design and manufacture custom pneumatic, electric, or vacuum powered-lifting devices that can be either hung from below the hook (crane / hoist), manipulators (ergo assists, ergo arms) and end-of-arm tooling (robotic).
Givens Lifting Systems Inc has a 13,000 sq. ft machine and design shop which employs experienced designers, engineers, machinists, welders, electricians, PLC programmers and installers. Our highly integrated working environment allows us to turn around projects rapidly whilst maintaining a high level of quality.
Example Applications
The following examples are just a handful of lift assist end effectors that we have supplied to our satisfied customers:
Automotive End Effectors
Grips a rotor, allows it to spin indefinitely on its own axis, and rotates the rotor 180° away from the operator.
Grips a 300 lb engine and rolls it 180° about the crankshaft. This end effector also features a handlebar that is adjustable through a range of travel of 24″.
Supports an truck instrument panel. Rolls the panel from the pick up position in the crate to installation position. Power tilt allows easy alignment of mounting points.
Pneumatic gripper with 180° powered spin about a vertical axis. Rotations make use of standard bearing assemblies (in red) that incorporate sealed ball bearings for extremely long life
A pneumatic gripper lifts a seat from a shipping crate. Tilt functions position the seat for set-down on an assembly line.
This end effector lifts a variety of sunroof shapes and installs them into a vehicle. A slewing bearing provides compensation for misalignment.
A manipulator mounted end effector grips a bench seat from a shipping crate. A roll function positions the seat for installation into a vehicle.
A hoist mounted mechanical gripper for lifting engine cradles. Tilt functions position the cradle flat for set down onto an assembly line.
This hoist mounted end effector picks up a battery from a shipping crate and installs it into a vehicle. A pneumatic gripper holds the battery.
Lift Assist & Gripper End Effectors
For residential doors. Vacuum cup positions are pneumatically adjustable to accommodate additional door sizes.
Mechanical gripper for lifting doors. Door rolls about an axis perpendicular to the operator. Secondary latches position door for set down location.
A pneumatic gripper holds a blank during a forging operation. A manual roll allows repositioning before subsequent strikes.
Every end effector and lifting device must meet these stringent requirements:
- At least a 4:1 designed safety factor
- Meeting or exceeding ANSI specifications
- All welders are individually CWB certified
- Documentation is provided for dye-penetration testing of critical welds and other stress points.
- Load testing to double the rated capacity, with documentation
- Assembly drawing stamped by a Professional Engineer
- Rated load conspicuously labeled
For pneumatic grippers:
- Air loss test, where the gripper must hold a grip after the air supply is cut off
- Push buttons for release and rotate must be operated by two push buttons simultaneously (two handed control with anti-tie down)
- Optional load sense to disable the release function while the load is being carried
