Powered End Effectors & Lift Assists

Balancers, Cranes, Manipulators, End Of Robot Arm Tooling, Below The Hook

Givens Lifting Systems Inc. designs and manufactures custom pneumatic, electric, vacuum or pneumatic powered-lifting devices that can be either hung from below the hook (crane / hoist), manipulators (ergo assists, ergo arms) and end of arm tooling (robotic).

Powered end effectors can incorporate a variety of movements to align a part between multiple pick up/set down orientations, help maneuver the part between operations or accommodate several different model variations.

Givens Lifting Systems Inc has a 13,000 sq. ft machine & design shop & employs experienced designers, engineers, machinists, welders, electricians, PLC programmers and installers. Our highly integrated working environment allows us to turn around projects rapidly whilst maintaining high level of quality.

Example Applications

The following examples are just a handful of lift assists that we have supplied to our satisfied customers:
Pneumatic End Effectors by Givens Lifting Systems Inc.
Pneumatic "Tilt and Spin"
Grips a rotor, allows it to spin indefinitely on its own axis, and rotates the rotor 180° away from the operator.
Engine Block Grip & Roll by Givens Lifting Systems Inc.
Engine Block Grip & Roll
Grips a 300 lb engine and rolls it 180° about the crankshaft. This end effector also features a handlebar that is adjustable through a range of travel of 24".
Instrument Panel Install Assist by Givens Lifting Systems Inc.
Instrument Panel Install Assist
Supports an truck instrument panel. Rolls the panel from the pick up position in the crate to installation position. Power tilt allows easy alignment of mounting points.
Frame Member Lift Assist by Givens Lifting Systems Inc.
Frame Member Lift Assist
Pneumatic Gripper with 180° powered spin about a vertical axis. Rotations make use of standard bearing assemblies (in red) that incorporate sealed ball bearings for extremely long life
Forging Gripper End Effector by Givens Lifting Systems Inc.
Forging Gripper
A pneumatic gripper holds a blank during a forging operation. A manual roll allows repositioning before subsequent strikes.
Bench Seat Lift Assist by Givens Lifting Systems Inc.
Bench Seat Lift Assist
A manipulator mounted end effector grips a bench seat from a shipping crate. A roll function repositions the seat for installation into a vehicle.
Vacuum Door Lifter by Givens Lifting Systems Inc.
Vacuum Door Lifter
For residential doors. Vacuum cup positions are pneumatically adjustable to accommodate additional door sizes.
Mechanical Door Lift by Givens Lifting Systems Inc.
Mechanical Door Lift
Mechanical gripper for lifting doors. Door rolls about an axis perpendicular to the operator. Secondary latches position door for set down location.
Passenger Seat Lift Assist by Givens Lifting Systems Inc.
Passenger Seat Lift Assist
A pneumatic gripper lifts a seat from a shipping crate. A roll function repositions seat for set-down on an assembly line.
Sunroof Lift Assist by Givens Lifting Systems Inc.
Sunroof Lift Assist
This tool lifts a variety of sunroof shapes and installs them into a vehicle. A slewing bearing provides compensation for misalignment.
Engine Cradle Lift Assist by Givens Lifting Systems Inc.
Engine Cradle Lift Assist
A hoist mounted mechanical gripper for lifting engine cradles. A Tilt function repositions the cradle flat for set down onto an assembly line.
Battery Lift Assist by Givens Lifting Systems Inc.
Battery Lift Assist
This hoist mounted end effector picks up a battery from a shipping crate and installs it into a vehicle. A pneumatic gripper holds the battery.
Every lifting device must meet these stringent requirements:
  • At least a 4:1 designed safety factor
  • Meeting or exceeding ANSI specifications
  • All welders are individually CWB certified
  • Critical welds and other stress points are dye-penetrant tested, with documentation
  • Load testing to double the rated capacity, with documentation
  • Assembly drawing stamped by a Professional Engineer
  • Rated load conspicuously labeled

For pneumatic grippers:

  • Air loss test, where the gripper must hold a grip after the air supply is cut off
  • Push buttons for release and rotate must be operated by 2 pushbuttons simultaneously (two handed control with anti-tie down)
  • Optional load sense to disable the release function while the load is being carried
