A Smarter Way to Move: Introducing the Electric Disengage-able Tractor Drive
Givens has re-imagined crane control with its new electric disengage-able tractor drive. Previously, only pneumatic systems offered disengagement, now, operators can power motion and freewheel manually using a fully electric setup, no compressed air required.
This isn’t just an electric replica it’s a more efficient way to manage crane movement. A pendant-controlled wheel engages the rail on command, then retracts once movement stops, letting the hoist roll freely when needed.

ELECTRIC PRECISION MEETS PRACTICAL PERFORMANCE
The electric drive features a one-third horsepower motor, eight inch urethane wheel, and a built-in variable frequency drive for smooth acceleration and braking. It pulls up to two tonnes and reaches speeds of 85 feet per minute.
You can choose between momentary or continuous engagement modes from the pendant, designed for both controlled positioning and fast, manual moves.
THE ORIGINAL WORKHORSE: PNEUMATIC TRACTOR DRIVE
Before the electric model, Givens’ air-powered tractor was the standard for disengage-able crane movement and it remains a strong option today. Driven by a high-torque air motor, it delivers fast response and near-instant directional reversal, ideal for manipulators, trolleys, and synchronized automation. It can move up to 2,000 pounds, with 190 pounds of drive force at stall and 140 pounds at max speed.
The wheel disengages via an air cylinder, and a regulator can be added to limit force, which can be helpful when obstacles are present. It’s compatible with most enclosed tracks like KBK, KLH, and ALU, and can handle curved rails with ease. For facilities with existing pneumatic infrastructure, it’s still the go-to solution.

WHICH DRIVE FITS YOUR OPERATION?
If your facility runs on compressed air and needs fast directional control, the pneumatic version remains the powerhouse. But for operations seeking an all-electric solution with the same disengage-able flexibility and fewer system requirements, the electric tractor drive offers a modern alternative.
Both systems are built with Givens’ commitment to reliability, control, and operator efficiency. The choice depends on your shop’s power infrastructure, control needs, and performance preferences.
