Straight vs. Articulating Jib Cranes
Not every lifting application is the same. Some work spaces need long reach and smooth movement across open floor spaces. Others need flexibility to work around machinery, walls, or tight production areas.
That’s where choosing the right jib crane becomes important. At Givens, we design both straight and articulating jib cranes to match the way your operators actually work.

STRAIGHT JIB CRANES
Lightweight & Efficient
Straight jib cranes are the most common style of jib crane and work best in open areas where operators need consistent lifting coverage.
Our lightweight G-Rail™ jib cranes are designed to reduce boom weight, making them easier to move and more comfortable for operators throughout the day.
Many systems can also be installed without a dedicated concrete foundation, helping simplify installation and reduce downtime.
ARTICULATING JIB CRANES
Built for Tight & Obstructed Work Spaces
When a straight jib crane can’t easily reach the work area, an articulating jib crane may be the better fit. Its jointed arm design allows operators to move around machinery, columns, walls, and other obstacles that would normally limit movement.
These systems are especially useful for machine loading, assembly work, and applications requiring more precise positioning.

SO, WHICH ONE IS BETTER?
Straight jib cranes are typically the better option for open layouts and longer reach applications.
Articulating jib cranes are ideal when flexibility and maneuverability matter more than maximum reach.
Both systems can be customized with different boom lengths, hoists, manipulators, air balancers, and end effectors depending on the application.
FOUNDATION-LESS OPTIONS AVAILABLE
Traditional jib cranes often require large concrete foundations. At Givens, many of our jib crane systems can be mounted directly to existing factory floors using engineered base-plates approved by a Professional Engineer. This can help reduce installation time while still providing a safe and reliable lifting solution.
